Aligning Small Groups with the Church

If you’re involved with small groups in a church and don’t know about smallgroups.com you really should check it out.  They have great resources for all different aspects of group life.

I had an article called How to Align Your Group and Your Church recently published in the training download Staying Connected to Your Church.  Here is an excerpt from the article.

Tug-of-War

Remember the game where you and a few friends grabbed the end of a rope while the opposition grabbed the other end and you both started pulling?  Both teams exerted a tremendous amount of effort, but neither team moved very far.  Imagine how far you could have made it if everyone decided to move in the same direction.  It wouldn’t have made for much of a game, but there would have been a lot more movement!

As you prepare to lead a small group it is important that you develop and communicate a vision that moves with your church and the other group members.  If you’re pulling against either of these groups you’ll find yourself exerting a lot of effort without getting anywhere.  When you align yourself with your church and the other group members you’ll set your group up for great things.
